Breakthrough Artist
Chris Lim (Kim)'s Biography
Kim graduated from NAFA with a diploma in Fine Arts and was also awarded a commendation certificate in Oil Painting in 1996.
From a young age she has loved her colour pencils and colouring books.
Kim loves the Expressionists who do not reproduce a subject accurately and instead paint to express the inner state of the artist.
She also likes the Fauves because they use pure, brilliant colours and are non-naturalistic.

"To inhale nature and exhale an expression to it - a connection between the outer environment and one's inner world."
Chris Lim (Kim)'s Collection
The low shop houses next to the high-rise housings in Singapore is quite an unique urban-scape Club Street got its name from various Chinese clubs sited there. Now this street line with conserved shop houses, have been converted to bars, restaurants, galleries etc. I was lucky enough to capture the image of the old shop houses before renovation. Old shop houses that are unique to Singapore and under the urban conservation policy were restored. Will this restoration be able to retain the old world charm of familiar neighborhood or just an artificial replica of the past?

In Singapore, not only old buildings were restored, certain mature trees will also conserve as “heritage trees”. This tree conservation policy will add an element of harmony to the urbanscapes. The red lantern is not just for decoration purpose in Chinatown. It has a dark secret in its own heritage. Located at East Coast Road, this red building has been an icon of Katong for many years. The view from an old decorative window shows the rich heritage of houses in Katong and recalling a time of the past.

Baskets, treasure chests, hats and other goods are either spilling onto the pavement or hung overhead in the shop. This is a quintessential feature of the old trade in Arab Street. This painting captures the quaintness behind day-to-day street scenes, the iconic shophouses and their backlanes. Modern high-rise buildings will soon swallow this idyllic setting of old houses in the core area of business district.
